There are a lot of inconclusive studies regarding aromatherapy on exactly How it helps with depression. There are also different forms of the umbrella term depression that folks suffer from. But let's keep it simple to get a better feel for what we currently understand.
How Does Aromatherapy Help With Depression?
NCBI is the The National Center for Biotechnology Information and have been around since 1988. Their most recent study I could find to get some facts regarding this.
Depression studies from NCBI; "The Effectiveness of Aromatherapy for Depressive Symptoms: A Systematic Review" were published on Jan 4th 2017.
I took the time to try and summarize it here, but they used Lavender as one of the essential oils and ran 12 different tests to see how aromatherapy can help with depression. 5 tests were done with aromatherapy as the sole focus, the other 7 had massages and aromatherapy or massages alone as a condition.
Here's a snippet of the report;
" Two out of 5 studies evaluating the effect of inhalation aromatherapy reported beneficial effects to improve depressive symptoms in the.. ' (please read the rest here!)
